Quality of life

The University of Glamorgan has changed and improved many skills that I never thought they would improve. There are improvements such as the way I speak and how I use the English language correctly. I have become more powerful and confident . However, below are some aspects that are affecting my quality of life at Glamorgan University.

  • Being homesick is one of the major problems that is affecting my life here in Glamorgan University.
  • Not having people from my country in the same class can be a bit hard.
  • It is difficult to have time for myself with all the assessments and work that has to be handed on time.
  • Not having someone that directs me when I am  lost or having someone to open up with some difficulties I face, for example, my mom.
  • The weather is not as it is back in my country, it is extremely cold here and I'm not used to this kind of weather.
  • The distance and journey from Cardiff to Treforest is 22 minutes long and it can be exahusting sometimes. I am not used to going on train
  • I don't use my own language as I used to do. Now I speak more English than my own langauge which is affecting the way I speak in Arabic.
  • Food in my country is different than the food here. I eat food from resturants more than cooked food at home.

Class System & Welfare System

1) In my country the retirement age is generally 60 but it really depends on the company policies. They could allow a person to retire even in the age of 40, for example, teachers in our country if they have been teaching for more than 25 years they have the right to retire and stay at home.
2) Old people in our country do not go to work. It might even be impossible that a company would higher an old person to work. This is because old people are not capable to do hard work whereas they need to relax and look after their health. The government provide for each and every single old person in my country a fixed amount of money that they receive each month.
3) Unemployed people get the benefit of taking care of themselves and having time for them only where they can focus on many goals without worrying about time or job. They can for example find something new about themselves, explore new things, get a makeover and so on.
4i) In many companies, they offer shelters for anyone that needs a place to live it. These things are mostly earned than given.
ii) If a person falls sick, he or she can rely on his or her own insurance and get the medicine and everything related paid for. This doesn't apply to everyone.
iii) In my country if a woman is pregnant she can get a one year holiday in order of delivering the baby and taking care of it.
iv) A death grants is usually given by the government. It's not given to families who have lost their child or father or any member of the family because of an accident or any type of death accidents. However a death grants is given to people who lost a member of their family because of a fire that was caused in a shopping mall, for example, when Villiagio the biggest shopping mall in Qatar got burned all the families of all the people that died were given a very huge amount of money to help the family.
 5) Social service is very known in our country. Some people are famous for these things, but some are not because they might do it just for themselves and to feel better
 6) Islamic charity, Qatar Charity and Eid charity are one of the most popular charities in Qatar. Eid charity is a very well known charity organisation. It collects money by selling coupons for different causes, arranging events, sending texts asking for certain things and so on.
 7) There not many of the Citizens Advice Bureau in our country. There are a couple of them spread out across the country but most of them do not give advices or help the person in many other problems. If a person is not sure of something or have a problems with bank loans and staff , he would go for a particular Citizen advice because they help with this particular issue.
8 ) In my country the health centres especially the private ones that you have to pay for have high quality of facilities. They even give the patient food and everything they need. But the public ones are with poor facilities, it is always crowded and the patients have to wait for more than hour to meet the doctor.
9) Family doctors are paid as same as the other doctors but if this doctor was higher by a rich family they would give him more money than what he usually gets. This makes the doctors do the job effectively and to encourage them.

The word POSH comes from 'Port Out, Starboard Home'. (Oxforddictionaries, 2012)
